Home » Advantages of using Lasers with the DataLase material

  • Reliability, industrial lasers are robust machines designed for use in demanding environments to minimise unplanned stoppages and maximise performance

  • Minimal consumables, lasers do not use solvents or ribbons.

  • Environmentally friendly.  Along with minimal consumables, laser coding does not add anything additional to the substrate, the DataLase patch is completely recyclable so unlike a label or inkjet code nothing needs to be removed prior to recycling, nor does it have any backing tape that needs to be disposed of

  • High speed, laser coding can print a high quality code faster than the nearest equivalent coding method.  It is even faster than traditional laser ablation, this method burns away part of the substrate which requires higher power and therefore takes longer

  • Repeatability, the laser on the DataLase patch produces a consistent code every single time

  • Minimal extraction, laser ablation burns away part of the substrate causing particulates to be produced, these need to be extracted, laser coding onto the DataLase patch causes some particulates to be produced but far less than standard laser ablation

  • Print quality, the laser code quality is extremely high, it can only be rivalled by pre-printing methods, which has the drawback of multiple SKU’s as well as waste and reduced recyclability

  • Barcode printing, traditional production line coding cannot produce good quality barcodes, the laser on a DataLase patch can produce a high quality barcode that will give an extremely high read percentage again with a standard laser ablation technique this is not possible as the DataLase patch produces the contrast that is required for a good barcode read

  • Stock Keeping Unit (SKU) reduction, by printing directly on the production line you remove the requirement for pre-printed boxes.   This has a huge impact on warehouse stock, locating the correct box, administration, capacity, flexibility of the production facility, downtime whilst changing boxes and the costs for holding multiple different pre-printed boxes.

  • Flexibility, by printing directly on the production line you have the ability to change the code on the box in minutes, this means if the requirement goes from packing peanuts to crisps this can be done immediately.

  • More information, the DataLase solution enables much more information to be printed than any other coding and marking solution, all you have to do is put down a bigger patch and programme the laser with the information you require.  The product can then be completely customised actually on the production line.

  • Space saver.  Label real estate is at a premium.  Lasers allow end users the ability to print smaller more legible fonts without adding space on label.  They also allow flexibility to print a variety of languages and barcodes.  These are advantages in Pharma sector.

  • Anti Counterfeit-  DL material can be printed onto labels that have a protective over coating, typically Poly propylene.  Laser light has the ability to go thru PP and image the DL underneath providing a mark that is more difficult to change and distort.

  • Improved laser performance. Due to the minimal power needed to create mark using DL, laser tube life improves due to lower duty cycle and power.  It also allows lasers to mark films that previously they could not due to material punctures.
