DataLase Awarded New Patent for its Innovative Marking Solutions
2 October 2007
DataLase, originator of the award-winning DataLase® process, announced that it has been granted a patent for a new transparent pigment for application on clear films or substrates. This adds to the extensive intellectual property that the company now holds in Europe, the United States and Japan.

With the innovative DataLase process, the patented pigment undergoes a color change reaction from white to black, forming a positive image when exposed to a computer-controlled low power CO2 laser. The DataLase process does not require inks, ribbons or other costly consumables, making it cost-effective and more environmentally friendly than traditional printing techniques. The laser-based print engine is highly efficient with almost 100% production uptime. The lifetime of the laser is over 30,000 hours and compared to thermal printers it requires little maintenance and no replacing of print heads due to wear and tear.

The newly patented transparent pigment has been developed as an additional application for the award-winning DataLase range of products. The products have been designed to apply high speed, on-demand variable information, such as dates and bar codes, to primary and secondary packaging. They also ensure efficient tracking and tracing of products for maximum brand protection.

Steve Kelly, CEO at DataLase comments: “We are proud to announce the latest addition to DataLase’s extensive portfolio of ground-breaking marking solutions. This new patent demonstrates our commitment to offer our customers innovative solutions for all marking needs while providing significant cost and efficiency savings. This development confirms DataLase’s position at the forefront of the print and packaging market.”
